NEWSLETTER June 2007
Last Meeting – At our May meeting, Mr Perikles Maillis spoke on the subject of Bahamians of Greek origin. Kudos to Mr Maillis for managing to do the entire presentation – with questions and answers almost an hour and a half – without a single piece of notepaper; it sure made for a captivated audience. Of course, we are also looking forward to receiving a sample of the Bahamian sponge types he spoke about for the museum. Next Meeting / DATE CHANGE – Our next meeting had to be moved forward one week. Here are the details:
Summer Break – As has been the custom over the past years, the museum will remain closed for the summer months of July and August. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors again come September. There will not be regular meetings over the summer either. Donation – The Bahamas Historical Society would like to thank the Leon Levy Foundation (http://www.leonlevyfoundation.org/) for their generous grant in the amount of $1,000.00 during the fiscal year 2006/07. BHS Logo Store – We have added a new section to our website, where visitors can purchase shirts, caps, bags, mugs, etc. with the beautifully designed BHS logo on it. Of course, we hope that many of you will utilise this new service and show your support for the Bahamas Historical Society, as the proceeds will help fund the Society’s operations. The URL is http://www.bahamashistoricalsociety.com/shop.html. Reminder – Renewal of memberships was due in April. However, to date we have received renewals only from a fraction of our members. Please remember that the Society depends on these funds for the operation of the museum. Also, only paid-up members receive the new Journal of the Bahamas Historical Society in October/November. As the electronic version of the newsletter also reaches a large number of non-members, please allow me to suggest that you take out membership in the Bahamas Historical Society, too. Whether it is for new or renewed membership, you can find the downloadable form on our website: http://www.bahamashistoricalsociety.com/applic.pdf. |
