October 2011
Dear Members and Friends,
Next Meeting:
Thursday, 27th October at 6:00pm
Museum of the Bahamas Historical Society
"A Tribute to the Imperial
Order of the Daughters of the Empire"

The latest image we have of the members of IODE
The IODE Headquarters was purpose built in 1952
as an entertainment centre with a stage, dance floor and kitchen.
Kindly, in 1976 the IODE donated the building to The Bahamas Historical
Society and we created a historical museum in it.

Jim Lawlor will give a brief overview of the history of the
IODE. |

The IODE badge cast imperial foundations in metal, with a
crown symbolising the monarchy, the Union Jack flag for Britain
and empire, and a seven-pointed star, one point for each of
the major territories of the empire. |

Past Presidents of the IODE - Una Sawyer will describe the
activities of the IODE, and Jane Lloyd the involvement with
the war graves. |
Refreshments will be served after the presentation.
|
We have decided to invite cultural groups to perform
in the hall which not only promotes culture and showcases the museum but
at the same time raises much needed revenue for the improvements to the
building. The Nassau Chamber Ensemble presents an afternoon of light classical
music to be held at the Bahamas Historical Society Museum on Sunday, 20th
November at 3pm - Tickets for this event would be available soon at the
National Art Gallery of The Bahamas. Ticket price for adults $20.00, and
for students with ID $10.00.
Kind regards,
Jim Lawlor,
President. |
